Hey, Caledon is fantastic place to relax, used to live there back in 2002 with the Rose family before moving to Armagh and then heading back to England. Would love to visit again with my partner and kids.

Hey you guys,
I was doing some research into my proud Irish roots, was astounded to find myself from the British bit and not GREEN! Are there any of the Lappin family still around from Caledon?

Researching my ancestors from Caledon. Jackson Scott (b.24th Feb 1827 (Aghaloo), d. 13th June 1872 (Armagh)). He married Teresa Wafer on 21st December 1855 at Aghaloo R.C. Church. I assume she was the daughter of Ellen Wafer who was listed at 59 Main Street Caledon in Griffiths Valuation of 1864. Ellen Wafer died in 1865 (the widow of an un-named stonemason).

What a great web site! I was looking up the history of my Grandfather on my mothers side which let me to Caledon, Ireland. I know very little of my Grandfathers history so how thankful I was to find this web site. Even more happy when I saw the pictures of Mercer's store.
My Grandfather's name was Charles Mercer.
Hope to visit Caledon in the future.

Thanks again

an update to my earlier comments. My wife and I were taking about our life there and she recalled a meeting with the famous Field Marshall Alexander of Tunus, when we lived on the estate we had a little dog and I had on a long leash in the lundry green. The field marshall kocked on our door to ask my wife to call off the dog because it wouldn't let him through the gate into the green.

In the 1960s I was a member of the R.U.C. and served in Caledon 1963, 64 & 65. I lived on the estate in what were described as the servants quarters in a quadrangle made up of stables, carriages houses, a bakery and laundry. The key stone above the door read 7132. My son was born there in April of 1965. Harriett Mercer ran the general store and Charlie had his bicycle shop across the street. We had lots of friend in the town both police families and others. I
WE will be visiting there in May of 2007 and hope to include Caledon in my stops. I have many happy memories of my life there and of the people.

My ancestors William McWilliams and his wife Susan nee Stringer arrived in Sydney in the late 1830's from Caledon with two of their sons also born in Caledon.
They were very proud of their heritage it is marked on their headstones in Liverpool Pioneer Cemetery, Sydney, NSW where they are both buried.

Until now I had not been able to find out any information about Caledon so I look forward to reading everything on this site to improve my knowledge about where my ancestors where born.

Thanks for the information.
