Hi,

My Grandad Joseph Potter was born in Caledon village or one of the nearby townlands, he later married Edith Hackett and they lived almost all their married life in Kiltermon, Fivemiletown. His Father was called John Potter and his Mother Mary Anne Murphy and they married in Aghaloo parish in 1858. If anyone has any knowledge of either John Potter, Joseph Potter or Mary Anne Murphy please contact me.

Hey,
I'm looking into the history of my family, I've Irish-American, proud Irish dude! So my family are from Tyrone County, my grandfather was a member of the Irish Army at the end of the first World War, I was wondering if there were any of the Houston family still living there and if you would have information on my grandfather Samuel.
Thanks
Eamon

Edward William Mervyn Evans, the son of Edward Kentish Evans and Jane Bury Scriven, born May 30, 1861, was my GreatGrandfather. He left us this writing

My first home, as I recollect, was a forty-two room brick house on the estate of Lord Calladen at Calleden, County Tyrone, Ireland. It was on a good sized farm, and had a massive iron gateway on the road, and about a half-mile of avenue shaded with large trees, winding up the hill to the house. We must have lived there six or seven years in the early 1860's.
I had a riding master, Hamilton, and a pony and must have followed a fox hunt of twenty or thirty redcoated hunters, the man running alongside holding me on the pony. There was an old horse of the cavalry loose on the place, a charger of Balaclava, just taking life easy in his old age.
I remember catching a trout one morning in a drainage ditch, with Willie Disney, whom you have met. That trout was no fingerling, about eleven or twelve inches long. I got all wet scrambling around, catching him in my hands.
When young Lord Calladen came of age, they gave a big blowout or fete, to which all the tenants were invited. Several hundred attended. Plenty to eat and drink: foot races, sack, races, wheel barrow races, greased pig, all kinds of good fun.
When we left there we stayed with Uncle Thomas Disney at the Deanery at Armagh for some months, while Father looked around...Later EWM is sick for a long spell and his Uncle W.B.B.Scriven of Deblin comes to look after him. The family emigrated to the USA a few years later in 1869. Unfortunately we here have lost all touch with anyone in Ireland or England. I greatly enjoyed your entire site. Write back if you please, Katie

What was the name of the lovely old gamekeeper that I befriended during my time with the army in Caledon 1976-77. He was shot regrettably by the IRA in 1976.
