What can I say, Ma & Jack Gillespie, granny & grandad to me. I grew up in london but spent all my summers there, so many memories, the big tree, the swing on minterburn road, take your pick in the deerpark! the bus shelter! the teabone steaks from the butchers, and most of all the fantastic send off from the british legion when Jack & Lizzie finally left us. And of course all those fond memories of them giving tea to their boys.

This is a completely random request. My mother-in-law is turning 70 this year and she was born in Caledon 1938. She was the youngest of 3 children. Her mothers maiden name was Simmons she had a brother called Willie and her fathers name was Wilson. She had 1 brother Allias and a sister Lydid (lyda). She was born to her parents very late in their life and they died when she was quite young. She has no recollection of her grandparents at all. She knows her mother was born in Motherwell Scotland that is as much as she remembers. I would really like to give her some information about her past coming up to her 70th birthday, she would love that. Just a note her parents then moved onto Keady then onto Carrickfergus. If anyone can help out with a bit of a background she would love it. We visited Caledon with her 2 yrs ago just before she lost her husband and that was the first she had been back from she was a young child. Please if anyone can help, she would really appreciate it.thanks!!!!

What a superb website this is! I think I may have spotted a potential new genealogy contact here ...

Re DAVID JAMES SMITH's message posted below on 25th July 2008 - David, I have tried to email you but without success. I recognise the Wilson/Couser names you mentioned and should like to correspond. If you read this, please contact me on the email address noted on the sidebar and we can compare notes.

Thanks again Jason for a fantastic and most informative website. Keep up the good work!

I am currently trying to trace my family history my G Grandparents were married in St Johns Church Caledon in 1861 George & Elizabeth Hurlock nee Hinchey they had at least 7 children one of them Mary (my Grandma)married Robert Beattie in 1911 they had 2 daughters and moved to yorkshire approx 1919 unfortunatly I am having difficulty finding any records before 1861 I do know G Grandad was in the army and was a Chelsea Pensioner and he was buried 31st Jan 1908 in St Johns but can not find any records for G Grandma or the Beattie line.
I hope to visit Caledon in the near future so any info may help a lot.
Thank You

Does anyone in the Caledon, Co. Tyrone area know anything about a Sarah Jane Tollerton, born around 1880's? All I know is she was adopted by the Morrison family. She married my Great Grandfather who has connections with the area and Caledon keeps coming up in my family search

What a lovely estate, i remember as a young 18 year old guarding the estate in all types of weather 24 hours a day, early eighties with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and it is great to see the house and estate in better peaceful times.
