This message is in reply to the guestbook entry by Dallis Manwaring from California. I am not certain, but it seems to me that you might be looking for the townland of KILLYNAUL (sometimes spelt "Killinaul" which is near Caledon and Minterburn in Co Tyrone. The place name you mentioned sounds like a mis-spelling of this. It's just a suggestion which, hopefully, might help get you back on track of your ancestors. Good luck.

Hi, I am replying to the guestbook entry from Billy Fitzsimons enquiring about the Gibsons who moved to glasgow in the 1960's. My gran's name was Margaret Martin and she lived in Caledon before settling in Glasgow and marrying my grandfather. However she had several brothers, who were called Gibson who came to live in Glasgow around that time. Unfortunately, I am no longer in contact with them. Maybe Mr Wray remembers my grandmother, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Very interesting site.

I'm wondering if anyone can help because I've recently found out two of my ancesters were born in Caledon or Minterburn. Joseph Dellicott born 1767 Caledon or Minterburn and his son Thomas born 1794 (same place). Joseph moved to Scotland and joined a Scottish Regiment in 1793.

The problem is the spelling of the surname differs so much I'm unsure of the correct spelling and was it an Irish surname. I'm also interested to find out if the families roots are from this area.

Some of the spellings were very odd:
Drillingcourt, Delacourt, Dellicott, Delecoat.

Any ideas?

Regards
Adrian

Hello Jason
I browse your site from time to time and have visited Caledon twice, in 1998 and 2005.

I am interested in communicating with Dallis Manwaring of the USA whose contribution was posted on 25 March 10. She is researching her Durham relatives. I am researching the Croziers and the Durhams of Caledon. I cannot go back to 1690 like Dallis can but I am trying to make the link back to Scotland.

My research indicates that Jmaes Durham who died in 1762 leased land in the Killynaull estate from James Alexander, the Earl of Caledon. His son, also James also held a lease on the estate as did his son Davidson. James ii also had sons John and Thomas.

Davidson's son Andrew (born 1813) studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin and the University of Glasgow prior to joining the East India Company as a surgeon. He married Mary the daughter of Dr John Crozier of Caledon. Andrew and Mary's second son John Charles Crozier Durham (my great grandather) hyphenated the surname. He went to New Zealand as a ship's surgeon and then to Australia before going to South Africa.

Perhaps Dallis and I can add to each other's research.

Oh Jason, Your website is very nice. I have enjoyed browsing through. I am researching my Durham ancestors and have found a place name that no longer exists (anywhere that I can look). I have found a John Durham (b. 1672 in Forfar, Scotland) who came to Ireland in 1690 and settled at Kiltynaule, County Tyrone near Caledon. I don't know if this is a village name, or an estate. Have you heard of this place? Thanks for putting this together. It's wonderful.

Hi my sister was trying to get information on my grandmother who lived in Caledon. Her name was Margaret Martin and she was born in 1926. If anyone can remember her or any of her family, the information would be greatly appreciated.

It was great to be able to see where she lived. Thanks
